Wendi Picker

Treasurer of the Board

Ms. Wendi Picker is currently Treasurer of the Board of the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). She also serves as the President, CEO and account manager of Accommodations Unlimited, a Virginia company that offers outstanding personalized service to act as an effective mediator and expert negotiator for the best value at the most ideal venue. Ms. Picker has a firm understanding of the sales process from both the hotel and the planner’s perspective with expertise in meeting planning, hospitality management and event management.

Ms. Picker went to the School of Business, George Washington University from 1982 to 1984 and obtained a BBS degree in the field of marketing.

Judith P. Barnhard, CPA, CFP®, CDFA™

Board Director

Ms. Barnhard currently serves as a Director of the Board of the the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). She is a senior vice president at CBM – Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. with 35+ years of industry experience. She has audited and consulted with not-for-profit entities, provided business and personal financial planning services, and performed peer reviews for DC-area accounting and advisory firms.

Before joining CBM, Ms. Barnhard oversaw audit practice quality control for not-for-profit, government contractor and closely-held business clients at May & Barnhard, P.C., a Bethesda, MD-based tax and financial consulting firm she co-founded and which merged into CBM in November 2017.  

She has consulted with not-for-profits on internal controls, financial reporting design and disclosures, fundraising contracts and accounting, unrelated business income tax and the allocation of joint costs of fundraising. She has made recommendations on improved cost reporting, budgeting concerns, IRS compliance issues, fringe benefit plans and lease vs. buying decisions. She has represented clients before the IRS.

Ms. Barnhard also has years of experience preparing income tax returns for individuals and not-for-profits. In addition to her financial planning work, she assists in divorce-related matters. She is a certified financial planner and provides portfolio review and investment counseling.

Prior to her 26 years at May & Barnhard, she worked as an experienced A&A manager at a large international accounting firm and as an internal auditor for the Washington Post Company.

Ms. Barnhard received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northeastern University.

William J. Scandone

Board Director

Mr. William J. Scandone currently serves as a Director of the Board of the the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). Bill has had engagements in the public, private, and government sectors.  His experience includes pharmaceuticals, financial services, unions, universities, and government. He began his career negotiating contracts with Steel Workers Unions.  He went on to academic positions at LaSalle and Philadelphia Universities.  He worked in the public sector with the Pennsylvania State Education Association, responsible for negotiations and arbitration, related to economic issues.

He returned to the private sector with CIGNA, responsible for developing job evaluation and compensation systems.  He went on to a pharmaceutical career with SmithKline, responsible for creating global compensation systems.  He was responsible for performance management, succession planning, counseling, dispute resolution, and organizational design for the research and development division.  He joined the animal health division to build a global communication and compensation and benefit program.

With Pfizer, he was responsible for developing Human Resources policy, and a global compensation and benefits function.  He was responsible for the strategy, delivery, and communications of programs including global stock options, surveys, statutory and company provided benefits, outplacement, and relocation.  He had been extensively involved in the global movement of expatriates.

He served on merger teams, and was responsible for interpreting purchasing agreements, plan documents and development of comparative analyses in selection, policy integration and vendor consolidation.

After retirement, Bill became involved with local government.  He chaired the local Education Fund, was on the executive Board of the Chamber of Commerce, and was on Borough Council for seven years.  He is a New Hope Arts Center Board member.

Bill holds a Master of Science in Labor Economics and Statistics, and a Master of Business Administration in Organizational Behavior and Economics from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Rider University.

Board Director

Mr. Edward West currently serves as a Director of the Board of the the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). He serves as Principal of Law Offices of Edward S. West. An accomplished real estate attorney with significant regional and national transactional expertise, Ed West has practiced for more than 30 years in the areas of commercial leasing and property management, acquisitions and dispositions, real estate development, finance, and design/construction. He represents a wide variety of tenants, landlords, developers, businesses, trade associations and other not-for-profit organizations, and individuals in commercial real estate and real-estate related business transactions. He is admitted to practice in D.C., MD, VA, and PA.

Michael Burke, CPA

Board Director

Mr. Michael Burke currently serves as a Director of the Board of the the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). Burke is President of Yorke, Burke & Lee CPAs, one of the leading accounting and financial management firms in Gaithersburg, Maryland and its surrounding areas. He is a practicing Certified Public Accountant and Registered Investment Advisor, providing accounting and tax services to individuals, business entities and tax-exempt organizations.

Burke has over 30 years of experience as a finance manager and tax planner. Calling upon his broad business experience and background, as well as his passion for helping others, Burke is currently Chairman of the Audit Committee at Capital Bank.

Gus A. Kodersha

Board Director

Mr. Kodersha currently serves as a Director of the Board of the the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). He is a senior pharmaceutical operations executive with extensive cross-functional and technical experience in building and operating a global pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chain organization. He develops and enables successful life sciences and medical innovation companies to have a consistent, scalable, and quality-driven supply chain and manufacturing network.

Accomplishments include establishing global commercial readiness standards and practices, resulting in timely CMC filing and rapid product launches. Strengths include leadership skills and commitment to operational excellence. to manage highly technical cross-functional international teams focused on asset development through filing and commercialization. He has migrated 10+ life sciences products from late-stage trials and FDA approval to process validation, manufacturing site launch and industrial-scale commercial readiness. As a result, he is recognized as a trusted advisor and knowledgeable resource to C-level decision makers, executive colleagues, employees, suppliers, contract manufacturers, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders. He is a strong team builder with long standing and industry leading employee in industry.
