Take Action with NFCR for World Cancer Day February 4

World Cancer Day is recognized annually on February 4th. The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) created this event to mobilize communities worldwide to fight for progress against cancer.

Why cancer?

Worldwide 10 million people die from cancer each year, a number projected to grow rather than decline. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children in the US. This disease has impacted too many lives, and we all have a role in improving our outlook.

Each year, a theme is chosen to help encourage individuals and organizations to take direct actions to improve cancer progress. Through 2024, the UICC and its member organizations will focus on closing the gap in cancer care.

To accomplish this, the UICC proposes three main focuses over the next three years:

  1. Realizing the Problem (Education and Learning)
  2. Uniting our Voices and Taking Action
  3. Challenge Those in Power, Together

To help you take action this year in ‘realizing the problem’ and educating yourself and others, we would encourage you to read some of our latest blogs, including:

National Foundation for Cancer Research Programs Addressing the Care Gap

We recently launched the Research for a Cure Patient Hub or Patient Assistance Center. This initiative aims to help those facing a diagnosis better understand what clinical trials are, how they work, and what options might be available. Explore the Hub here.

Additionally, on March 3rd, we will host our inaugural Dialogue with Leading Oncologists virtual event. This event will be exclusively virtual. It will allow individuals to interact with oncology researchers and doctors to ask their cancer questions. Learn more about this event here.

If you would like to make a gift to support cancer research in honor of World Cancer Day we invite you to give here. Thank you.
