| ABC World News: Medicine on the Cutting Edge |
The following video segment of ABC's World News with Charles Gibson highlights exactly the treatments available and research being done at the NFCR Personalized Medicine Research Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ, the NFCR Center for Targeted Cancer Therapies, and through NFCR-funded research at Massachusetts General Hopsital under Daniel A. Haber, M.D., Ph.D. This revolutionary work involves screening tumors for genetic vulnerabilities in order to figure out how to best defeat the cancer. "Every tumor has a flaw," explains Dr. Leif Ellison. "If we can figure out what that flaw is, that will help us match the tumor to the most effective drugs." Many of these drugs, or targeted cancer therapies, are the result of innovative research done by NFCR-funded scientists, and it is this new wave of personalized medicine that holds the hope of curing cancer.
