Dr. John Schiller Discusses the Power of NFCR Funding

Dr. John Schiller is a principle investigator in the intramural program at the National Cancer Institute. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in molecular biology before receiving a Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dr. Schiller, in collaboration with Dr. Doug Lowy, has been awarded the 2018 Szent-Györgyi prize for Progress in Cancer Research for their development of a preventive vaccine for human papillomavirus, which is the leading cause of cervical cancer cases. Their discoveries support all currently administered HPV vaccines globally. Dr. Schiller and Dr. Lowy’s work is made possible through funding from foundations like NFCR that support innovative outside the box research responsible for major medical discoveries. See why Dr. Schiller thinks funding a wider range of research has the possibility of making a big impact.
