NFCR Children’s Cancer Care Program in India

Children's Cancer Care Program in India Photos

Did you know that last year, cancer killed 7.6 million people worldwide and is expected to kill 10.3 million annually by 2020? In India alone, an estimated 1.5 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed and approximately the same number of cancer patients died in 2007. At any given time, there are about 2.5 million cases of cancer in India alone.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that cancer has become India’s leading cause of death. This alarming fact is even more disheartening when we realize that this number keeps growing: as India’s population ages, the number of cancer patients is expected to rapidly increase.

Even more alarming is the fact that about 500,000 of the estimated 2.5 million cancer patients in India are children. Approximately 25% of these children will die from brain cancer. Many of these patients are not able to get the care they need in a timely fashion due to the expensive nature of treatment, the lack of expertise and poor facilities in the surrounding areas. In addition, scientists still don’t fully understand the genetic basis of brain cancer, and therefore are unable to treat these patients with the best choice of drugs currently available.

Can we help these Children Fight Cancer? We believe that by working together with dedicated supporters like you, “YES!” we can help these children. But we do need your help. The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) has developed a new program dedicated specifically to helping these young victims: the NFCR Children’s Brain Cancer Research & Pediatric Cancer Patient Assistance Program in India. For over 35 years, NFCR has been funding cutting-edge cancer research and prevention education, an investment that has paid off for literally millions of cancer patients and survivors worldwide. Now, we need to expand our programs to include the young cancer patients of India.

The NFCR Children’s Brain Cancer Research & Pediatric Cancer Patient Assistance Program in India has a unique mission :

  • Support pediatric brain cancer research programs in India by collaborating with the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital (TMCH) in Mumbai, India. The TMCH is a leading institution in India involved in cancer patient care and cancer research. The annual cost of this program is estimated to be 1 million dollars.
  • Provide financial assistance for families of pediatric cancer patients who can’t afford the treatment. We estimate that the approximate cost to support one child who is undergoing brain cancer treatment in India is $4,000 per year. This amount includes treatment and basic living costs, and transportation expenses.

We invite you to join the fight against this deadly cancer affecting millions of children around the world. NFCR hopes to raise this amount from generous donors like you and corporations around the world.

You can help today!

Your support of the NFCR Children’s Brain Cancer Research & Pediatric Cancer Patient Assistance Program in India to help find cures for pediatric brain cancer truly benefits your family, friends, and loved ones.

About 500,000 pediatric cancer patients in India urgently need our help. The sadness and tragedy that thousands of families experience each year due to cancer can be overcome. With your support, we will succeed.

Thank you for your time and please consider a generous gift to NFCR today.

P. S. By 2020, Cancer will kill about 750,000 children in India every year. Don’t let this happen. Make a donation to support NFCR Children's Cancer Care Program in India.
